Thornhill Parish Church

Touchscreens installed in a church by Media Vision

Media Vision was commissioned to design, author and install a set of 3 touchscreens for Thornhill Church in Yorkshire.

The church has the finest display of Medieval Stained Glass in the north of England, outside the city of York. Stained glass experts, Jonathan and Ruth Cooke, completed the installation of a replica window to replace the original which had become too delicate to remain in situ. The glass is displayed in a specially designed structure by PPIY Architects and built by cabinet maker, Jon Hunt.

The multimedia presentation was created for the Savile Chapel and tells the story of the large Medieval Glass window, its conservation and the creation of a replica window by conservator, Jonathan Cooke. The interactive also contains information and images about the Church’s monuments and other windows.

For the younger audience, there is a fun game where children have to quickly fix a broken window before anyone notices.

The story of how the window was restored is told by a short film presented by Gemma Brice. HD cameras and sound are by Jon and Joshua Wells. Directed and edited by Media Vision.

The touchscreen (not full size) is available to view on the Thornhill Church History website:http://www.thornhillparishchurchhistory.org.uk/presentation/
